Introduction :
Friends, I have the Motorola Edge 20 Fusion & the Motorola Edge 20
They are pre-production units that they’ve sent us, so today we’ll unbox & tell everything about them.
These boxes have an improvement as they’re the premium Edge series.
Last year the flagship Edge had launched with a curved screen. And these are premium mid-range phones.
You get the phones right upfront, USB Type C Cable, a 30W charger, a sim card tool.
Let’s keep this all aside. And look at the phones!
GOOD
- excellent battery backup
- 90 Hz AMOLED
- ready for pc (connect)
BAD
- camera average
Specifications :
The Edge 20 is India’s first phone to come on Qualcomm SD778G SoC.
We couldn’t test its AnTuTu score but I think it ranges between 5.20L-5.50L, which is very respectable!
The SD778G is power efficient as it’s a 6Nm processor. So it performs excellently there!
And talking about power efficiency, it has a small battery which makes it light.
It has a 4000mAh battery with 30W fast charging.
There’s only one variant with 8GB RAM & 128GB of storage
The Fusion has a bigger 5000mAh battery with 30W fast charging & the base variant(6+128GB).
The Fusion has a Dimensity 800U SoC, & its AnTuTu score is around 3.62L, which is good enough.
Both phones have LPDDR4X RAM. In Edge 20, you get UFS 3.1 storage type.
In the Fusion, you get UFS 2.2

In-Hand Feel :
I’ll talk about the Edge 20 first, it’s super slim & lightweight in the hand.
It’s 6.99mm thin! Generally, phones are 7.5-8mm thin. It’s seriously slim with flat sides.
It feels good to hold in the hand & is slightly broad.
Just like this one, you get a case in the Edge 20 as well. It’s a decent grey colored case.
Design & Looks :
The Edge 20 looks more premium & is more expensive than the Edge 20 Fusion.
And it’s slim & light. Let’s weigh both the phones.
It’s 164-165g! I thought it’d be around 165-170g, but it’s way less at 165g.
This one has a bigger battery & is 188g.
A drop test is mandatory! We’ll put on the case.
Alright, nothing! Let’s flip the side.
That’s a bang with a thud!
There’s nothing wrong with the phone, let’s remove the front cover.
There’s one thing, both phones’ camera bumps are quite pronounced, especially the Edge 20.
And so you won’t have a problem with a case on, but without the case, it’ll wobble.
Let’s check Fusion’s sim card slot, it’s a hybrid sim slot.
And with the Edge 20, there’s a dual nano sim slot with no expansion.
Build Quality :
You get a metal frame in the Edge 20 with a plastic back & Gorilla Glass on the front panel.
They must’ve kept the plastic back for no antenna lines to be seen. But it does look like glass.
Port & Buttons :
Below you get a sim card tray, a USB Type C port, a microphone & a speaker grill.
On the right, there’s a power on/off button with a fingerprint sensor & a volume rocker above it.
Above, you get a noise-canceling microphone.
On the left, you have a button.
On the Edge 20, you also get a mic on the camera, so there are a total of 3 microphones.
An important thing is there’s no 3.5mm jack on the Edge 20. But you do get it on the Edge 20 Fusion.
Display :
We’ve already started the Edge 20 & it has a beautiful screen!
I love it! It’s one of the best I’ve seen, compared to a flagship phone!
It’s a 6.67’’ pOLED screen with a 144Hz fast refresh rate & has a 576Hz touch sampling rate!
It has HDR10+ support, a 10-bit panel having more than 1Bn colors!
And it shows when you scroll/swipe. The Edge 20 has an impressive display!
The Fusion has a 6.7” OLED screen & supports HDR10+.
I’m not sure about the touch sampling rate on this one. But the Fusion’s display is good!
OS UI :
The 2nd highlight after the display is their OS! You get MyUX on both phones.
And it gives you a stock Android feel but there are a lot of customizations for you!
To talk about bloatware, it’s very little if you compare it with other phones! And yes definitely less!
Both phones are based on Android 11 & their security patches are the latest as well.
In fact, the Fusion has August’s Security Patch, the Edge 20 has a July Security Patch.
And Motorola promised that they’ll receive both Android 12 & 13 as 2 major updates.
You also get a RAM boost mode(virtual RAM). So you can increase 2GB RAM virtually on both phones.
There’s another feature that I liked,
“Ready For” :
It pairs your phone with your PC.
And you can watch your phone’s home screen on the PC & even play games which is great!
With the “Ready For” feature, you can use the phone’s front camera as a webcam for your desktop.
The Power touch feature :
a double-tap on the power button will pop a tray showing the frequently used apps to access.
And with Motorola phones, you get the ThinkShield feature which is an extra layer of security.
So your apps & data are a bit more secure with ThinkShield.
Camera :
It’s the 3rd biggest highlight of this phone, both phones’ primary sensor is 108MP!
The Edge 20 has 108MP+16MP ultrawide that doubles up as macro where you can shoot videos
from a distance of 2.5cm with 4K@30FPS! And the 3rd 8MP sensor is for telephoto.
Because you get a 3x optical zoom in this price range! There are very few phones with optical zoom.
